Being Moscower by birth, the photo-artist L. N. Lazarev is inseparable from Moscow?s life, its atmosphere and energy influence. He knows all of its features, its structure, its reserved corners, its appearance in different seasons and hours of day and night, its holidays and workaday routine. He?s been taking pictures of many-sided Moscow (thus making her «portraits») professionally since the year of 1957 and continues doing this to present day. Even he himself finds it difficult to say exactly how many black-and-white and color frames devoted to Moscow he has done. But for the album-book he picked out 100 frames showing, in his opinion, traits and changes of the capital since 1957 and till 2004 (even more of them can be contained in the book). Here you will see the landscape lyric sketches, strictly compositional genre decisions, epochal social and political events, portraits of Moscowers, poster-symbolical, resumptive, now and then fantastic compositions… It?s hard to enumerate all the methods, foreshortenings and the artist?s points of view in the approach to accomplishing his set tasks when creating multidimensional and multi-aspect representation of his dear capital?s image.
